Most of us want to look our best and treatments which go wrong or cause unwanted side effects can have a serious impact on physical and mental health.  According to some users of TRESemme, one of the world’s best known hair care brands, their Keratin range of products can cause hair loss and scalp irritation.  A class action has now began in the USA.

It is alleged that Unilever, who produce TRESemme, had falsely represented that their products would smooth hair and coat it with Keratin.  The Plaintiffs say the relevant products contain ingredients, including DMDM hydantoin, a formaldehyde releasing preservative.  DMDM hydantoin is a commonly used preservative in beauty products.  However, it has been linked to hair loss previously and the Plaintiffs in the current case allege Unilever failed to warn them of the potential side effects.

The TRESemme class action is currently at an early stage and it remains to be seen if it will be successful.  Edwards & Co. have represented many clients who have suffered injury as a result of hair and beauty treatments, as well as cosmetic procedures, including scarring, chemical burns and hair loss.
