Dorcas Crawford
Dorcas studied law at Queen's University Belfast, graduating in 1987. After an apprenticeship in Edwards & Co she qualified as a solicitor in 1990 and has been a partner in the firm since 1995.
Dorcas specialises in Litigation, mainly for Plaintiffs. She has conducted a number of high profile and ground-breaking cases, such as the application to the High Court in December 2002 for an order permitting revolutionary treatment for vCJD sufferer, Jonathan Simms. The application was successful and Jonathan received the treatment, making him the longest known survivor of the disease. She continues to act for his family in the ongoing legal issues that arise in relation to his condition.
Most recently, she has conducted the longest running civil action in N.I. - a Group Action for 5,000 police officers for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder against their employer, the Chief Constable. The trial lasted 102 days and finished in July 2006. Judgment is anticipated in early 2007.
Since completing that trial Dorcas has changed focus slightly, now representing a large number of clients in the Rosemary Nelson Inquiry. She has also recently been appointed as solicitor to the Northern Ireland Social Care Council in relation to misconduct proceedings against social workers.
Dorcas is a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers and she lectures in High Court Procedure at the Institute of Professional Legal Studies, Queen's University. She has recently been appointed to the County Court Rules Committee.
