INTERNATIONAL CENTRE OF TECHNOLOGY
www.ictcollege.org
Out of Afrika has pleasure in writing this report to Edwards & Co. on the progress of the college since we opened earlier this year.
Without the support of Edwards & Co. the success of the college would not have been possible.
Edwards & Co. have raised money for Out of Afrika's skills training project in Kenya. Through your help we have established a college to provide practical and life skills needed for long term self-employment and security of our citizens, in our on going efforts to eradicate poverty through skills training.
This money has been raised by the contribution of all the employees, their relatives and friends who have shown dedication, enthusiasm and motivation in organizing various fund raising events.
The team has tirelessly devoted their energy and time to help make Out of Afrika's ambition of establishing a skills training centre a reality. On 15th January 2007, the college (International Centre of Technology) opened its doors to around 35 students, a mix of sponsored and fee paying.
The college has been progressing well and to date there are now around 100 students taking courses from information technology, community development, business to disaster management.
The college is also creating employment within the community as there are currently twelve teaching staff employed on full time basis. The fee paying students are helping to sustain the college and pay the staff salaries leaving very little money for maintenance and future expansion of the college infrastructure.
The college also provides free computer lessons to the surrounding community and has recently been voted in the Thika Times newspaper, the best place to learn computer skills.
The pictures below will guide you through the progress of the college and what Out of Afrika has achieved to date with the support from Edwards & Co and how the money raised has been utilised.
On behalf of Out of Afrika team we would like to extend very sincere gratitude to Dorcas Crawford and everyone at Edwards & Co. for their support of Out of Afrika in the construction of a skills centre in its aim to create a community free of poverty in Kenya.
