DORCAS CRAWFORD
Dorcas has been a solicitor in Edwards & Co. for over 20 years, moving from apprentice to partner in just 7 years. For most of her career she specialised in litigation and has been the moving force in several ground breaking cases:
- Jonathan Simms was a talented 17 year old footballer. He developed vCJD. Dorcas assembled a dedicated teams of doctors and lawyers who fought for his right to receive revolutionary medical treatment that has lead to an improved and longer life for Jonny. The case demonstrates what Dorcas describes as the Edwards & Co. belief that every case is about the people who are involved.
- That belief has been carried through to the huge cases that Dorcas has conducted. She has been the Lead Solicitor for over 5,000 people (the biggest case ever in NI) who have sought compensation for post traumatic injuries. At the heart of that case are the individuals and their personal suffering.
As her practice develops Dorcas has been closely involved in a number of public inquiries established by the Secretary of State. She has also been retained by statutory bodies such as the Northern Ireland Social Care Council and the Security Industry Authority in their regulatory functions. This work demands a full range of talents, the investigation of cases, the assembling of evidence and the presentation of cases, which she does personally, and has led to the development of the Regulatory Law Department in the Firm which she leads.
In October 2008 Dorcas qualified as a mediator, having completed her training with CEDR (the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution) in London. She is the only CEDR registered mediator in N.I.
