Edwards & Co 'Training Weekend'
The Edwards & Co team headed off on Saturday 3rd October for their annual "in-house" training…….actually it was "out -house" in the beautiful surroundings of the Slieve Donnard Hotel in Newcastle. The purpose of the weekend is to keep the Solicitors on top of on going legal development and this year we were focusing on improving our presentation skills to enable us to provide seminars, of a high quality to our clients. 
During the course of Saturday we were divided into 2 groups. One group was under the skilful eye of Philip Crawford from Happenstance Theatre Company (www.happenstancetheatre.co.uk) who directed us in the art of putting together the presentation while the other group were coached by a voice coach and choreographer, both of whom were specially flown in from the West End in London by MT4Uth, whom we, as a firm, sponsor and who organised the event for us. By the end of the Saturday session we were all of the same opinion that we would be more confident in giving a presentation BUT that none of should give up our day jobs as Solicitors as the chance of any of us starring in the lead role of a West end production was very very slim indeed.!! After our intensive training we were given a few hours to relax. Some of us used the spa facilities in the hotel while others went for a relaxing sea weed bath, whereas the gents just preferred to adjourn to the bar to watch Man United v Sunderland over a pint or two. After a superb dinner, and the odd glass of vino we were getting concerned that some of the party actually thought they were on stage , especially after another guest brought his guitar and the singsong began!!! Sunday came early!!! We had one further training session on Sunday morning and by lunchtime we were all in agreement that the weekend had been a great success. We were genuinely of the opinion that we had learnt a lot from the creative training but just as importantly, we enjoyed some great team building, and we all got on so well together. As you can imagine - plenty to chat about over a coffee on Monday morning. Roll on next year!! |
