NORTHERN IRELAND'S NEW CHARITIES COMMISSIONER
ATTENDS EDWARDS & CO SEMINAR
We held a seminar for our Charity clients on 18 June 2009 at the Ramada Encore, Belfast. The purpose of the seminar was to provide clients with information on the new Charities Act (NI) 2008 and to think about the issues which may arise for them. We were delighted that the newly appointed Charities Commissioner, Mr Tom McGrath was able to attend and speak to our clients about the changes which lie ahead for Charities in Northern Ireland. Cathy Warnock presented an outline of the new legislation and highlighted issues which Charities in Northern Ireland now need to be aware of and consider. Teresa Curran spoke about matters relevant to Charities relating to property and agreements. Orla Shevlin spoke about employment matters and Denis Hamill talked about litigation, particularly debt recovery. The seminar was well attended and a useful opportunity for us to meet with our clients and for them in turn to meet each other to share knowledge and concerns. Thank you to all who attended and contributed. We will provide further updates as this area of law develops over the next year to eighteen months. |
